Located in a small village called Sooranad, in Kollam district of Kerala, this HomeStay having four air-conditioned bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, is a Lawrie Becker style house with mud tiles on its ceiling and a lot of inter-binding corbel designs, offering a captivating village life.

The family resides here, which ensures you are safe, you get to interact & relish home cooked food.

Palamoottil Pandakasala, is a place to experience village life upfront, Slow Travellers have a great opportunity to just seep into the place; work in the kitchen garden; watch and feed the cattle and poultry in the backyard; involve in the various sustainable efforts which are part of this home or just take a cycle or bike to ride through the village by lanes and its tiny shops.

  • Take a trip and shop at the local farmers market.
  • Visit the largest fresh water lake of Kerala.

  • Witness the processing of Cashew at a local factory.
  • Walk over to the Paddy Fields.
  • Take a canoe tour at the Munroe Islands.
  • Visit the local Temples/Church.
  • Be a guest at our neighbour’s house for tea or to listen to a village story.
  • Stroll by the village and experience its people, setting and lifestyle.
  • Shop at the in-house Spicery for premium spices, home-made masalas, chutneys and pickles, coconut oil, cashews, and some village art too.

And when you aren’t doing any of these, relax at the patio or entertain yourself in the living room or get on to the Recreation Zone for some games or browse the net or just pick up a book and be on your own…remember it’s your own house so just be yourself.

About The Village: Sooranad North

Sooranad North is a village in Kollam District in the south west Indian state of Kerala. Cashew nut processing is the back bone of the village economy. The village also manufactures tiles and country burnt bricks.

Padmasri Dr Sooranad Kunjun Pillai, the renowned poet, writer, and linguistic expert who formulated Malayalam Lexicon, hailed from the area. Barrister N. Padmanabha Pillai, well-known writer and journalist Sri. Gopi Anayadi, Late Vaiankara Madhusoodanan, a well recognised classical music singer also belonged from here. Nelson Sooranad Nelson, a standup comedian and actor who is active in Malayalam film and television in another star of this village. A tributary of the Kallada River flows through this village as well as the Pallikkal River. Across this there is a dam that can irrigate about 200 acres (81 ha) of paddy and other summer crops.

There are many markets and temples in Sooranad and the only Shanideva temple of Kerala is situated in Sooranad North. A large elephant festival, the Anayadi Gajamela, takes place at Anayadi Narasimha Moorthy Temple and involves a hundred-odd caparisoned elephants lined up accompanied by a traditional orchestra.
